Meet Ups

When diagnosed with a condition it can be very hard, it can be even harder if the disorder is very rare and not understood and this is what many patients with Functional Neurological Disorder experience. We are here for you, many people working for our charity also have the disorder, so we can also relate with you and we really understand the difficulties people are facing on a daily basis.

Talking to people can make you feel more optimistic about your disorder, it can also help you share ideas on how to manage your condition. It can also help arrange fundraising activities for more research into this dreadful disorder. With the support of people, we really are stronger together. You do not have to feel alone there is people that care about you and we are happy to talk anytime.

We regularly host meetings near 7 Northumberland Street, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD1 1RL. If a meeting is going ahead we publish this on our Facebook page and highlight this on our news page of our website. We are always happy to talk to patients on Skype and by phone, if you feel you need more support, please do contact us.

Online groups and forums are also a good idea to advertise your own meet ups. You could arrange a meeting in a local pub or coffee shop. If there are numerous people it might be an idea to rent a room and all contribute to the cost. It might also be worthwhile connecting with people through Skype and using webcam services, this can bring you closer to people despite the distance between you.

The NHS also provides a free non-emergency telephone service by dialling 111. It can be used if you urgently need medical help or advice but it is not a life threatening situation.

The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) offer support and information on health-related matters. They are a point of contact for a range of people including patients and families.

It can also be very difficult emotionally, despite having regular meetups with various people and lots of support. Just so you know, we understand how difficult it is, regular counselling on the NHS or evenly privately might be considered. Your mental health is very important, but if you require some extra support The Samaritans provide a 24 hour confidential free call support service on 116 113 or you can email them at jo@samaritans.org.

It can also be increasingly difficult to stay on top of your finance and continue working with Functional Neurological Disorder. You may want some additional free advice in this area and the Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB) provides a wealth of support and information.
